Technology Standards Podcast

I have reviewed the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers and see the wide range of expertise that is required to be effective teachers in the use of technology. I have created a podcast of some of my thoughts concerning the standards and the areas I feel I need to improve.

Daniel Perez's Educational Website

I have created this website as an educational tool for the classroom. This will serve as an awesome communication tool. My students can check this website for upcoming events and class assignments. It serves as a way for students to check their grades as well. Click here to go to our class website.

I have uploaded an introductory brochure to help students and parents see what we will be doing in our biology class.

I have also uploaded a simple grade book for the class. This is an example of what to expect in our biology class.

Teaching and Learning with Podcasting

Podcasting is very unique. This application has been used by thousands of people. However, I have never thought about using it in an educational setting. So, I recorded some of my reflections on how to use podcasting in the schools. Click My Audio Podcast to listen. Thanks.

Technology in Our Day

The hardest thing about technology is not so much the application of it or its utility, because we see the significance of the many advances of technology in this century. I can remember that not too long ago I did not have a cell phone. The recent addition of this technology into my everyday activities has been somewhat life changing. And now I say to myself; and I know you have thought this as well; how did I ever get through my day without a cell phone. This day and age, we see the numerous additions to the cell phone ranging from various upgrades to software and application downloads. We can perform a multitude of tasks that were unthinkable on those bulky cell phones of the eighties. Therefore, the hardest thing about technology is learning how to use it. Mastering this vocation will open umpteen opportunities in functionality and utilization of the ever growing technological advances in countless mediums and situations. One of the environments that the use of technology can and will improve the levels of achievement, is in the educational field.

The classroom setting is where many people get there instruction on various subject matters pertaining to the knowledge of the world. Many methods of instruction have been introduced into the educational system and many more studies have been used to measure the effectiveness of these teaching strategies. These studies have concluded many things related to effective teaching and discovered that student academic achievement increased in learning environments in which the classes were more engaging and where active learning was prevalent. Technology plays a significant role in creating such capable learning conditions. Imagine a classroom where a teacher, during her instruction, can not only explain the functions of a cell, but also uses a multimedia animation to visually depict the process of the function just discussed. This will greatly engage the minds of all students who are either audible or visual learners.

I love to learn. It is a continuing goal of mine, to keep gaining and seeking for knowledge. In today's society, we have the privilege of unlimited access to knowledge right at our fingertips. The internet and it's many uses can be utilized in the school system today. The generation of students today are more adept to using the web than their parents. Therefore, I believe we should apply this technology to help students in their schoolwork and keeping up with their assignments. I would use this to create my own class website, where students can find updated information of classwork, grades and other important information pertaining to our class. Therefore, the switch to using technology in the classroom is inevitable. We, as educators need to jump on board this fast moving vehicle of education if we are to impact the next generation of learners.
